Instagram Stories: How can this be a pluspoint for your marketing strategy?

On august 2, 2016 Instagram introduced a new feature to instagram. The feature lets one share all the moments of the day.  As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format: your story.

With Instagram Stories, you don’t have to worry about overposting. Instead, you can share as much as you want throughout the day — with as much creativity as you want. You can bring your story to life in new ways with text and drawing tools. The photos and videos will disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your profile grid or in feed. It’s not just my opinion: Over 200 million people use Instagram Stories every day, according to the company.

Tap on the plus button found on the top-left side of your home screen or swipe left in your Feed. You can also quickly launch Stories by swiping right from the main screen.

Tap the circle button at the bottom of the screen to take photos or tap and hold to record a video. You can also choose to start a live event or a Boomerang or put the app in hands-free mode. More on those options in a minute.

Edit the photos or videos with text or add a drawing as you normally would. If you hit the pen icon, there are three types of pens. The third one makes your sketch look like a neon sign.

Tap Done to save your Story.

Tap the Add Your Story button to share to your Story. You can also tap on the Save icon to save your image or video on your phone. If you click the Arrow icon, you can shoot your image to one of your friends as well as your Story. Just tick the bubble by Your Story and the person you want to share with. The image will disappear as soon as your friend sees it.

So with such a cool feature, the question is how can Instagram stories boost your marketing campaign?

Fascinating and interesting posts are not the means of increasing engagement with your followers. More average posts posted frequently can also increase the engagements with the followers and encourage them to check your Instagram Business Profile for latest posts and updates.

One of the innovative ways to engage your audience is by posting some interesting facts or current affairs related to your business or related to the domain of your business.

For example, Nike keeps regularly posting about athletes as the company related to athlete products. Instagram Stories allows you to continue using (or start implementing) frequent posting as an engagement strategy—instead of only “wow” posting—to stay top of mind for your audience.

Pitching your audience through Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn can be too mainstream. Using Instagram stories can be a great way to gain attention of your audience as it is a new feature surfaced in field of marketing since last august. If you already have an Instagram account and audience, you can simply diversify your content with resources you already have.

The photos and videos that you publish normally on Instagram get saved to your profile (unless you delete them). The photos and videos you publish to your Story, however, disappear after 24 hours.

The reason why this is beneficial is because the photos and videos in your story have real-time and contextual value, but aren’t the highest quality photos. With Stories, you can reap the benefits of real time marketing without cluttering up your profile. You can then treat your profile like a portfolio, showcasing your best and most evergreen content.

Since your Story vanishes in 24 hours, there’s no point in spending time and effort on professional looking or high quality photos. The photos are meant to be raw, real, and relevant to the particular moment. The reason businesses use this type of content is because it humanizes your business and gives it transparency, which allows your target audience to connect with you on a deeper level.

Use Instagram Stories to highlight the exclusivity of the network to drive buzz and word of mouth marketing. People will be more likely to view your content when they know it’s specifically catered to them.
